Foreign Employees Witness China Datang’s Green Development and Smart Transformation During Their China Tour
ON November 22, the first ” Building Excellence Together, Sharing the Future” event for foreign employees of China Datang Corporation (CDT) successfully concluded at the headquarter of the company. During the symposium, the company’s leadership’s heartfelt welcomes and genuine caring, as well as their sincere guidance and profound expectations, struck a chord with and impacted the foreign employees.
“The journey to China was one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I want to apply the knowledge and motivation I gained from this trip to my actual career,” said one of the discussion participants.
During the sharing session, the foreign employees conveyed profound gratitude and a deep reluctance to part.
On November 11, Six outstanding foreign employees from China Datang, who were originally from the nation of Indonesia along with Cambodia, started the “China Journey” training and exploration trip from the company’s headquarters. They visited several locations over more than ten days to get a firsthand understanding of China Datang’s industrial layout, company breadth, and rich culture of excellence. They actively shared China Datang’s outstanding achievements as well as its open and inclusive development philosophy with the rest of the world, participated in on-site learning and exchanges on cutting-edge technologies and management practices in green development and intelligent transformation, and witnessed firsthand the allure of traditional Chinese culture. Through them, communicate to the rest of the globe China’s tremendous accomplishments as well as its open and inclusive development ideology.
Intelligent technology, awe-inspiring
After departing from Beijing, this distinguished group of guests made their first stop at the China Datang Nanjing Power Plant, which boasts a history of 114 years. The foreign employees were captivated by a large LCD panel displayed on the wall of the smart power plant.
“The smart power plant’s control room serves as its primary hub, much like its “brain.” It is linked to the Nanjing Power Plant’s intelligent monitoring system, allowing for advanced services including intelligent inspection, automated coal transportation, intelligent combustion, problem diagnostics, and dynamic operational changes.” The Datang Nanjing Power Plant’s representative explained that attendees were able to view real-time, dynamic images of the three-dimensional power plant by simply clicking a mouse, demonstrating the advanced capabilities of the intelligent inspection robot visualization platform. All participants agreed that this represented cutting-edge technology they had never seen before.
Hasmunir, the IPP Plant Head of PT DSSP Power Kendari, arrived with inquiries. The four most common concerns he discovered in Indonesian power operations are low automation investment, precision control difficulty, work coordination issues, and considerable steam quality changes. Hasmunir received a positive response from the Nanjing Power Plant. “I heard before I came to China that the mainland power plants have a high level of intelligence and low labor intensity for operators,” he said with frustration. This time, I had the fortunate opportunity to visit and study at the Datang Nanjing Power Plant. The Datang Smart Power Plant’s intelligent monitoring, automated operation, and maintenance, as well as effective management, are absolutely outstanding.”
The foreign employees then toured Datang Suzhou Thermal Power Company, which houses China Datang’s first self-built gas turbine and the group’s first batch of distributed rooftop solar systems under the “whole-county” initiative. They were ecstatic at the clean plant environment at the gas turbine power plant. Napolin Sirega, the operations specialist engineer from Kalden Power Plant in Indonesia, expressed his surprise when he learned that the gas turbine plant would achieve a continuous five-year “zero unplanned downtime” milestone in just one month. He meticulously documented the detailed process and principles of the simulation training.
Power Generation Co., Ltd. and China Datang’s first offshore wind power plant. Standing on the Yellow Sea shoreline, they saw the stunning sight of offshore wind turbines in operation, bringing renewable energy to the onshore economic growth zone. Erwin Yuliandri, Director of the Technical Department PT DSSP Power Sumsel in Indonesia, commented, “It would be wonderful if a wind farm like this could be built in my hometown!”
Technical Exchange: Complementing and Enriching Each Other
The “China Tour” was both a learning experience and a forum for concept and technical exchange. Foreign people engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges with key project leaders, technical specialists, and others concerning domestic and worldwide power industry development trends, technological developments, and market growth.
Li Dewan, Deputy Director of the Operations Department of Datang Milawu Power Generation Company, expressed interest in the Suzhou Thermal Power Company’s exceptional record of five consecutive years of “zero unplanned downtime.” He enquired thoroughly about how China Datang Suzhou Thermal Power Company managed this and discovered the solution on a tablet equipped with an electronic operation ticket system. This system combines tasks such as equipment QR code identification, image recording, operation audio recording, and registration and feedback, thereby minimizing errors like accessing improper intervals or missing steps. Li Dewan saw this system as the “number one enemy of unsafe operations.”
Foreign employees at the Jiangsu Datang International Lushi Port Power Generation Co., Ltd. were astounded by the company’s record-breaking “three launches in one month” and “four launches in one quarter” in power building history. They inquired in depth about how the organization reached its aim through effective management.
When visiting new energy equipment manufacturing enterprises, foreign employees were even more astounded by China’s manufacturing capabilities. They discovered that the whole manufacturing and assembly process at Suzhou Canadian Solar Power Group was almost unattended. High-purity polysilicon raw materials underwent a series of processing steps before being manufactured and assembled into solar panels. Lan Wenlin, an electrical maintenance technician at Cambodia Hydropower Development Company, was emotionally moved by the question: “How many similar production lines do you have? How many photovoltaic cells are made every year?” When he discovered that the firm had 21 production lines and an annual output of 18 million kilowatt-hours of solar cell modules, he frequently lauded China’s manufacturing capabilities for being far ahead.
Cultural experience, strengthening friendship
During the trip, foreign employees also visited the corporate culture exhibition hall of China Datang headquarters and the “Digital Green” production dispatch center. One picture after another vividly reviewed the historical process of China Datang from hard work to rapid growth, development and expansion to striving to become world-class; one scene after another allowed foreign employees to experience China Datang’s corporate culture and the “Digital Green” empowered production and operation results up close.
“You have to study hard, and you can come to China like your father in the future!” During the trip, Li Dewan would always share with his family via video link wherever he went. During the exchange, Napoleon sang “This is a Wonderful Night” with his magnetic bass, winning warm applause from Chinese colleagues. Cambodian employee Mian Jinlan sang the Chinese song “The Road of Light” that she adapted and created for everyone, expressing her gratitude to China Datang for bringing light to the Cambodian people.
This “China Tour” event not only allowed foreign employees to experience China’s rapid development and profound Chinese heritage in person, but also to get to know and integrate into China Datang up close, full of a sense of belonging and pride of “going home”, and full of confidence in the career they are engaged in. They all expressed that they would bring back the good impressions of China, work together, pursue excellence, and create a better future.
Relevant person in charge of China Datang said that this trip of Datang’s foreign employees to China is an important measure to jointly build the “Belt and Road” with high quality and promote “harmony and coexistence”. China Datang will uphold the concept of “embracing all rivers and gathering talents from all over the world”, continue to build the brand of “building excellence together and sharing the future”, further deepen the internationalization and localization of talent layout, promote mutual learning of civilizations and people-to-people exchanges, and achieve mutual benefit, win-win and common development. China Datang will continue to deepen the Southeast Asian market, actively expand into Central Asia, Africa, South America and other regions, and unswervingly follow the path of international development. At the same time, China Datang will continue to actively fulfill its economic responsibilities, social responsibilities and environmental responsibilities in the host country, and contribute more to promoting global energy transformation and sustainable development.
